New Bag with New Features!

Hi there!  I've been so busy doing projects to blog about that I've had no time to blog about it!  (Go figure!)  Here's a bag I finally finished on New Year's Day.  I made this one for me, but I made a similar one for my sister for Christmas.  If I talk her into taking pictures of it, I'll post it up soon!

I simply drew out the shape of the bag and constructed it, and trimmed as needed after I cut it out.  This was the third bag I made using this template, but with new and improved features and I love the way it turned out.

Here's my favorite feature of this bag.  Because I have no shoulders, purses tend to slip off my shoulder SUPER easy.  Throw on a coat, and my purse staying on at all is ancient history!  So I decided that I needed to create a bag with an adjustable shoulder strap.  Solved with a loop sewn on one side, and an extra long strap on the other, you're set.  Just tie a knot to the length you want and you can either wear the bag on one shoulder, or wear it diagonal across your chest.  (And again, I have to give the credit for this idea to my awesome husband.)

I made a small pocket for the outside fastened with velcro to hold my keys, phone, and lip gloss.  That way these little guys can't get lost in the large part of the bag!

This bag was actually sewn to be reversible (but I'd never wear it that way).  I made a larger pocket, again fastened with velcro, so I can tuck my wallet away to make room for other stuff.  Sometimes I take the bag to school, or to the library, so I need room for books/binders.

And once again, the vital zippered pocket.

Happy New Year!

Hi Everyone!  Hope you had a fabulous New Years!  I sure did.  I hung out with my husband all weekend, and it was a blast!  I also did a bit of sewing, and hope to show you what I completed very soon!  But first, I wanted to record a couple of my New Year's Resolutions.
1.  Keep my (clothes) closet clean and organized this year!
2.  Craft at least a couple hours a week to stay sane.
3.  Say "No," more often to things that aren't important.
There's tons of things I'd love to do this year, but 3 is plenty to be thinking about!

If I get around to snapping pictures, I'll show you what I'm doing to keep #1, and #2 for that matter!

Tradition...2 years and counting

I've done it again!
I promised myself last year I wouldn't do this again!

I lost my husband's present last year trying to hide it from him,
and somewhere between Sunday and today,
the present has gone missing!
Maybe I'll just tell him that it's a treasure hunt, and when he finds it, he can have it!

Crayon Roll

That I made for her big brother for his birthday this year.

I had the materials to make her one for Christmas, when my husband decided she needed a crayon purse instead!

And this...

 is what I came up with.

But here's the twist...

The crayons are the 'coin purse,' which can come out for easier access to the crayons...

but are attached so they don't go missing.

This was one of those "make it as you go," projects, and I think it turned out quite nicely!

Giveaway at Oops I Craft My Pants!

You should check this giveaway out!  It's hosted by Oops, I Craft My Pants! There's this frog that's a bath toy holder that scoops the toys out of the tub, AND it also holds all the shampoo and stuff.  I know this makes little or NO sense, but until you look at the pictures here you'll never know what you're missing out on!  There's also some super cool blocks, but I'm just absolutely in LOVE with the frog!

Scarves X 5

Hi!  I'm so excited to be able to blog about this today!  I found this fabulous idea from Make it And Love it for a scarf, and when I was asked to make the scarves for the Young Women in my ward for Christmas, I decided to try this idea out.  Have you ever looked at something so long that you decide you hate it, but you know somebody else will like it?  That's how I feel about this project.

Now if I could only clone this one and have 5 done!

(Oh, and a trick I learned, is that if you can find the blanket kits ---I found mine at Joann's---some of them are already cut to the 60 inches for the lengths of the scarves!  Hooray!!! and less work for me!)

Token Board

Today is my first day of freedom from finals, and I can't wait to get started on some new projects!  I wasn't planning on posting about this, but then I decided that it involves cute pictures, buttons, and a bit of sewing, so I decided it counts as a craft!  I am a special education major, and made this for one of my classes at school.

This is a called a token board.  It's used commonly in Special Education classrooms to keep students motivated to work.  You can either use it to help reinforce responding correctly to directions, or for behaviors that student is working on (such as feet on floor, sitting right in chair, hands to self, quiet mouth, etc.).  Each time you praise the child, you give them a token (the buttons in this case).  Once they get the 5 tokens, they get to do the activity they chose (sitting above the buttons).  While you're working with the child, you remind them how fun it'll be to do the activity once they've earned it.  This helps a ton in helping students learn that there are benefits to getting their work done at school!  It also helps teachers remember to praise and reward students for doing well!

Well, it's my first day of no-school, and I've got a lot on my list to do!  I'm so excited, I finally get to clean up some messes and have a clean house! Wahoo!  Hope you are all having a fabulous Christmas season!
