My Closet is a Bed of Roses

Have a few plain t-shirts laying around?  Found some t-shirts for a great deal, but need to add some flair to them?
Here’s an idea for you, add fabric roses to your shirts.  The top one is for me, and the bottom one is for my sister for her birthday.


Tutorial for the fabric flowers, found here at Fireflies and Jellybeans.  Nearly my whole entire collection of shirts are plain solids, but with a little work it can look like a bed of roses.  You’ll be seeing more t-shirt makeovers in the future for sure!

Hair Bow Mania!

      One of my friends is having a baby girl in a few weeks.  When I asked her what she would like/need for the baby, she said she LOVES the hairbows out there, and anything else cutesy and girly.  That surprised me, because she's not the most "girly-girl" I've known!  So hair bows it is.

     I've found some great tutorials for hair bows and fabric flowers (I think I have at least 20 bookmarked!)  I ended up attempting a few, but once I tried the Hair Bow Tutorial from  Savvy n Sassy, I was hooked!  These are SOOO easy, and only took me a few minutes to put together.  I love that you use thread to make the middle of the bow rather than wire or ribbon from other tutorials.

While looking for supplies, I happened upon a fabulous find!  You know those headbands that have the little loop you can slip different clips in for babies?  I found some…at Walmart of all places!  I looked EVERYWHERE.  They’re made by Goody.  Here’s a look.  They may be a tad big for a teensy baby, but I’m positive she’ll grow into them!

 

They were $5.00 for a package of 3 headbands.

Here’s a bow on the headband, to show the effect (although we can’t show it on the baby because she’s not here yet!)  The rest of the bows are pictured below!

Maxi Dress Refashion!

Hello there!  I hope you all are having a fabulous Friday!  I sure am.  I am feeling very ambitious and already made a batch of bread.  I like those days, when the ordinary chores seem fun.  (Doesn’t happen very often).  But I’m not here posting about chores! 

I love all the Maxi dresses out there right now, but there’s a slight problem.  I am short.  Like 5’ 1’’…So these dresses and I aren’t real great friends at first sight.  So I altered it, and I LOVE it!  It hits just below the knees, and looks great with a bright colored shirt underneath.

Last Saturday, after the LONG bake sale, I came home and refashioned this dress.  My husband knew that I needed a crafting break or I would go crazy.  So he kept working on his projects, and I worked on mine!  I found the tutorial for this dress here at Make it and Love it.  It was super easy, and only took me a couple hours.  I used Fawnda’s tutorial for the flowers found here on Fireflies and Jellybeans.

I had a little bit of material left over from this project, and have another project in mind, so stay tuned!

Too easy to be called a tutorial: Framed Quotes!

I love the framed quotes that you find everywhere these days.

I have a few I've bought from the store, but I like finding my own quotes, and framing them myself.

I decided to find a way to frame some of my recent favorite quotes.

Here's what I came up with:

You can do it too!

Here's what you'll need.

A frame (I got mine for $2.50 from Walmart)

A computer and printer

Paper (I've done scrapbook, and I've done plain white- you decide)

Any Embellishments desired

Scotch tape or Glue

The steps are way easy:

First, Type your quotes

Second, Print

Third, Cut out, embellish, and hang up

For those of you who need a walk through of the computer settings, here they are.  If not, it's pretty self explanatory!

First off, open a new Word Document

I set up my paper size to be 4 X 6 in (tab) because that's the size of frames I had.  Set it up to fit your frames.

Then I copied in my quotes.

I like to have key words be in different fonts, so I highlighted the ones I wanted and changed them.  If you want some new fonts for your quotes, I use www.1001freefonts.com

To make the text be centered vertically on the page, go to Page Setup, click on the Layout tab, and then where it says Vertical Alignment, select Center.

 Once you get your fonts looking the way you want it, print.

If you've set the page size differently, each quote that is on a "page," will come out on a separate page.  So, plan your paper accordingly.  

(If anyone can figure out how to get all four to print on one page, holler!  I am mad at Word for this particular reason!)

Cut out your papers, embellish, and mount in frames.

I did the tear and mount on another paper because my paper cutter and brain weren't in sync I really like the look!!! :)

And there you have it, my tutorial that's so easy, it can't be called a tutorial!

Mother's Day Gifts

I know, I promised this post about a week ago.  With finals and then with a HUGE fundraiser I was involved in (I baked for about 5 hours straight on Friday---and then was helping run the fundraiser all day Saturday), I ended up not having time to even FINISH (or start) both mother's day gifts in time.  I'll be getting the rest of the gifts done most likely tomorrow. It's a six hour drive to see our mothers, and we were too tired from our busy week.  I decided it was okay if I finished them late, and gave them to them in a couple weeks when I visit them.

Joy!

Today I feel like writing.  I don't have anything spectacular to say, other than school is out for the summer. HOORAY.  I have no fabulous stories or crafts to show you, but I just wanted to share some of my joy with you.  The last few weeks, I have been so full of joy!  And that's pretty surprising with everything that's been going on lately.  With finals and lots of Young Women's stuff going on, I've barely had time to breathe...but I have felt sooo much joy in my heart.  And that's a good thing.  I thank my Heavenly Father every night for my life, and as my favorite artist says, I plead with Him "to leave it like it is."  Things don't always go as planned, and even the last few weeks have brought some unexpected twists, but deep down I feel stable and secure.

And because there's so much joy in my heart, I must share what has made me happy lately.  My husband, our families and the Gospel are definitely on the list, but today I want to share the little things.  They are simple, worldly things, but with a thankful heart, they truly make me happy.  (Beware, the list is random...but then again, so am I!)

My "Empire Red" Kitchen Aid that my parents gave us for our wedding.  This appliance has saved me royally.  My husband loves home made bread, and because of this, I make it almost every week.  He also loves cookies and other treats, and I love an excuse to use the Kitchen Aid.

A clean and shiny sink (I'll be doing this to my bathtub in the morning as well)

Bubble baths have never been a favorite of mine, but that has changed recently.  They keep my stress related headaches away, and give me time to read while soaking away.  This is my new favorite scent, found at good old WalMart! :)

Other stuff that isn't pictured include:

• My kitchen being clean
• Wearing mis-matched socks often occasionally
• Sewing through a WHOLE project without sewing something shut that shouldn't be having to use the seam ripper
• Pink Lemonade
• Little kids and cute babies
• Flowers--currently Tulips
